The ancient Indian epic "Mahabharata" describes the ancestral home of many peoples who went down in history under various names: Etruscans, Rus, Slavs, Scythians...

Tradition says: two and a half darkness (25,000) years ago, the northern polar continent was not, as it is now, buried under water and ice. 
It consisted of four Islands. 
Tradition calls their names: White, Golden, Secret, Veliy (Great). 
In general, this entire land was called Ort (Vort, Art), later - Arctida, Daaria, the ancient Greeks called it Hyperborea. The four Islands were separated by straits leading to the inland sea. The center of this sea was exactly at the pole. (And to this day, legends of different nations tell about the islands of the blessed and the four rivers of paradise). Although legend speaks of the Islands, it was the continent and not the archipelago that was located at the pole. 
It was a single massif, limited by the shape of the land, like a cross enclosed in a circle. (The Northern Tradition, leading its existence on Earth from the Arcti, is also called the Teaching of the Closed Cross.) At the pole itself there is a “black rock”. It can apparently be identified with the sacred Mount Meru. According to archaic mythological ideas, 
it is located at the North Pole and is the axis of the world - the center of the Universe. The Indians, after the gradual migration of their ancestors from North to South, preserved the memory of the Polar Mountain Meru in almost all sacred books and majestic epic poems (later, ancient cosmological views entered the Buddhist canon and into images on sacred mandalas).

This is exactly how Arctida was depicted on the maps of Gerhard Mercator, the Flemish cartographer and geographer. It is believed that Mercator copied his maps from some very ancient images, which he kept secret from his competitors.
The creators of the unusual shape of Arctida were not the quirks of the elements, but its inhabitants themselves. And then the legend speaks of even more incredible things. 
The inhabitants of Arctida were... not Earth-born creatures. People, their contemporaries, called them Alvas. 
But in the memory of mankind they remained as the race of Daarians (Hyperboreans). But they were not “aliens” in the modern sense of the word. They did not come to Earth on spaceships from distant stars. They did not know this need at all - to overcome Space. Because they, as legend testifies to them, were wanderers along the World Tree. 
The image of the World Tree is preserved to this day in the legends of many peoples, especially in the northern hemisphere. 
They come into this world and leave it along the World Tree. Moving along its trunk and branches, they make transitions between worlds. The top of this Tree reaches the heavens, the luminaries, and the stars. Its roots penetrate to unimaginable depths.
The capital of Daaria (Hyperborea) was located directly near the point of the Earth's geographic pole. The city was called Pola (“Peace”). Perhaps the origin of the words polis (city) and pole is due to this name.  In ancient Greek myths, the capital city of Arctida is called Ortopolis. Literal translation: the city of the Vertical, the city of the Earth's Axis.

TEMPLE OF WALKING THROUGH THE WORLDS
Exactly above the very pole, above the mouth of the Great Hollow, was located the Temple of World Wandering. He was the focus of Arctida's spiritual power. Thanks to the magical art of the architects, his stone body hung in the air. Centuries passed, and the huge black shadow of the floating building still fell on the motionless rushing walls - the waters of a monstrous whirlpool. This shadow had the shape of a cross. The consciousness of a representative of any race entering the vaults of the temple underwent temporary changes. Every movement inside the temple seemed slow to him. And the desire to speak disappeared, as if the gift of speech had suddenly been taken away from him. The most wonderful thing was that the Temple of Wanderings was not a three-dimensional body, like all sorts of things in the world. He was four-dimensional. 
Therefore, its internal space appeared to everyone who did not possess the wisdom of the highest initiation as a labyrinth of endless complexity. 
In this space, four wands could be placed perpendicular to each other. So that they formed a volumetric regular eight-pointed cross, impossible in a constant space, and seemed to lose weight... The temple itself had this exact shape. 
Since these times, the Eight-Pointed Cross has represented the sign of the highest initiation. This is how the planetary axis was designated. This is also how the mystical Center of the planet was designated - Alva... The appearance of the representatives of the alien race was not too different from the appearance of the indigenous population of the Earth. 
The difference in appearance was that purebred alves did not have beards. Therefore, the ancient Greeks God Apollo (early name - Polon), the patron saint of Pola and the entire North, was depicted without a beard, unlike Zeus and most other Olympian men. Therefore, the Ancient Magi of the Rus, who inherited the Secret Knowledge of the Polar Continent, did not wear beards (with the exception of the priests of Chernobog). Magi, Vedas, magicians in ancient Slavic miniatures differ from other people in whose company they are depicted by the absence of facial hair. This custom of adherents of the Northern Tradition not to wear a beard or mustache survived until the time of Prince Vladimir...
One of the main activities of the Axis people was traveling through the Worlds of the Universe. For most of its residents, the city of Pola represented only a base, a place of their regular meetings. 
Every solstice, equinox, and full moon, wanderers gathered together to tell each other about what they had seen and to perform mystical sacraments. The Hyperborean holidays fell on these days. The rest of the time, most of the elves spent exploring other worlds - both the world of our Solar System and other Worlds of the Solar System and beyond. They were great magicians. The magic of the Hyperboreans made it possible to gradually create an almost completely stable flow of thin substance - the Axial Tunnel, which began directly above the pole of the planet and ended at the Alva point. This was a path that for thousands of years provided communication with the Depths of the main bodies of the Solar System, as well as with the Depths of the Stars that influence events on Earth.
